A landscape of great biological richness that brings together a diversity of flora and fauna of incalculable value. With a surface area of 320 km2, it is the largest aquatic habitat in Catalonia and represents an enclave of vital importance within the wetlands of the Mediterranean. Its biological richness contrasts with the profound humanisation and agricultural transformation of a large part of its surface. In order to make possible the harmony between the natural values of the area and its exploitation by humans, and at the request of its inhabitants, the Generalitat constituted <strong>the Ebro Delta Natural Park<\/strong> in 1983. That is why, with his dagger, the Roman centurion Manius Vibius left an inscription in relief on the tower dedicated to the goddess of wisdom.<\/em> Without knowing it, he had just made the oldest Latin inscription on the peninsula. He was an Etruscan and commanded the soldiers who were building the walls of Tarraco, the oldest Roman construction in Europe outside the Italian peninsula. Rome had landed in Hispania and was here to stay.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>Tarragona <\/strong>history comes out of the stones, out of the books and comes to life. The city has specialised in historical reconstruction activities. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the great modernist buildings were built in <strong>Reus<\/strong>, making it, after Barcelona, the most important modernist city in Catalonia. The fantastic <strong>Sagrada Familia<\/strong> church and other modernist landmarks designed by <strong>Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/strong> adorn the city. The <strong>Picasso Museum<\/strong> and the <strong>Joan Mir\u00f3 Foundation<\/strong> showcase the modern art of the artists who gave their names to the city. The <strong>Museum of the History of Barcelona (MUHBA)<\/strong> includes several Roman archaeological sites. Barcelona's history spans four thousand years, from the end of the Neolithic period, with the first remains found in the city's territory, to the present day. The substratum of its inhabitants brings together Iberian, Roman, Jewish, Visigothic, Muslim and Christian peoples.
